What an interesting year 2016 has been. I had the amazing opportunity at the beginning of the year to fly to Europe and photograph a wedding for one of my very good friends and her awesome husband. Congratulations on one year of vows Jael and Jan. It was an amazing experience to be able to travel alone and meet people from every corner of the earth. This trip enriched my year, my life, and my wedding portfolio to no end.
Soon after I arrived back home, I second shot two more weddings, two senior shoots, and an engagement. I was on a roll making memories last forever, and I had so much fun gaining friendships along the way. Soon, the days got longer and hotter.
The summer is always slow here in Florida, due to the fact you step outside and immediately start glycining. It was during this time though, that I met another photography friend, Tyler, who introduced me to a new workflow and editing style. This cut my work time and created photos that I was much happier with. I grew a lot in my work and as a Photographer. I also resparked a love for the art and realization of a need to shoot for my own pleasure. I shot a few self-portraits and really fine-tuned my style. I did shoot one really awesome wedding for a really cool couple whose love was fun and joyful. I was able to use my new style in editing their wedding photos and they loved them.
Fall swung around and I was so excited for Autumn mini sessions. It really is my favorite time of year. Along with a good handful of minis, I also shot some senior photos, engagements, families, births, lifestyles, and more. It was a wonderful season of getting to know people and laughing alongside them as I captured the moments. I also added a beautiful lady to my team, Shawna. Along with being my sister, I now have the privilege of having her help me in my business.
In November I moved from Deland, Florida to Clermont, Florida. It is only about an hour away but has been one of the best decisions I’ve made in 2016. Don’t worry, I’m still close enough to do sessions in Volusia County but live closer to my family and am much happier at my hourly job.
I’m so excited for what 2017 will hold. I will be going back to school in the upcoming weeks to finally finish my degree in photography. Among the classes I’ll be taking is a photography business course that I’m honestly stoked for. It is my goal for 2017 to become a licensed business and to use what I learn in this course to grow as an official business. Some of my other goals this year is to work less at my hourly job and really focus more on my business, be more organized, meet my minimum salary goal, book a certain number of sessions a month, and really get to know more about my clients.
You guys are the bread and butter to this whole business. I am so lucky to have such amazing people on my team and as clients. From booking a session with me, assisting me on a shoot, or just giving me words of encouragement, thank you for all that you have done for me in 2016. I want to stay connected with all of you so please send me an email to say how you’re doing, keep my updated on how your family is growing, and let me know when big events happen, good or bad. I want to live life with you and pray for you as we go. 2017 will be a great year and I can’t wait to experience it with all of you.
